Royal House is at 14 Upper Northgate Street, just beyond the Northgate and a few minutes from the walls, the cathedral and the Rows. Being in the middle of things is part of the appeal, so here is a practical note on reaching it, whether you are coming for a tour, a meeting or every day.
By train
Chester railway station is a fourteen minute walk, with direct services from Liverpool, Manchester, Crewe, North Wales and London. Walk into the centre along City Road and Foregate Street, then north up Northgate Street past the cathedral and through the Northgate; Upper Northgate Street begins on the far side.
By bus
Chester bus interchange is five minutes on foot, so services from across Cheshire and from the Wirral drop you almost at the door. If you are visiting for a meeting, it is the simplest way to arrive.
By car
Royal House is a short walk from several city centre car parks, with more across the canal towards the station. Allow a few extra minutes in December. If you are a member and drive in most days, the team can point you to the car parks with the best weekly and monthly rates.
On foot and by bike
Most of the city centre is within ten minutes on foot, and the canal towpath runs under the end of the street for anyone walking or cycling in from the suburbs.
Once you are here
The building is staffed Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm. Visitors sign in at reception; resident desk and office members use the biometric entry whenever they like. There is a coffee shop next door, a post office seven minutes away, and the whole of the city centre within a five minute walk. Northgate House, our second Chester address, is a few doors along the same street and opens late in 2026.
From Liverpool and the Wirral
The Merseyrail Wirral line runs direct to Chester, so members who split their week between our Hoylake buildings and Royal House can do it by train without changing. From Chester station it is the same fourteen minute walk, or a short bus ride to the interchange.
The address for your sat nav and your calendar
Royal House, 14 Upper Northgate Street, Chester, CH1 4EE. If you are sending a calendar invitation to a visitor, add that the entrance is on Upper Northgate Street and that reception will sign them in. Northgate House, when it opens, is at number 10 on the same street.
